About

CultureSwap matches participants across the arts and cultural sector with peers at other institutions. The focus is simple: spend a day at a peer’s workplace, sharing insights and best practices, and brainstorming ways to tackle challenges both inside their institution and in the arts sector as a whole.

I have found CultureSwap to be one of the most fun, rewarding days of my year. I learned so much about other organization’s best practices, budgets, culture; it’s actually changed the way we do business in my organization.

Facilitated by the 92nd Street Y, CultureSwap began in 2018, matching NYC arts professionals with peers at other arts institutions to learn from one another, tackle challenges, and build fellowship among arts communities. In 2019, there were 100 participants from 53 institutions throughout NYC’s 5 boroughs.

Building on this success, we’ve created tools, training and a framework to scale CultureSwap to cities and countries around the world. If you are interested in starting a CultureSwap in your city or community, view our Start a CultureSwap page to find everything you’ll need to get started.
