How do I start my own cultureswap?

You have the passion and the purpose. All you need now is the people and the protocol. Check out the steps below for running a CultureSwap to empower arts and culture professionals to help each other succeed through shared learning, mentorship and growth.

Download our CultureSwap Toolkit for all the materials you’ll need to start a CultureSwap in your community.

How it works

  • Assemble your CultureSwap organizing committee.

  • Write a brief CultureSwap description and create a landing page (website, Facebook page etc.). You can draw from our boilerplate language

  • Create an application. You can build on our sample application

  • Spread the word. Send out invitations to people and groups in the arts/cultural sector in your area.

  • Match participants and let the swapping being! Send out emails to introduce and match participants, and encourage them to set up their swaps. During the swap period, send 1-2 reminder emails to participants to complete their swaps. You can use our email templates.

  • Host your group gathering (if you choose to have one) to debrief with your CultureSwappers. Here are some tips for planning your gathering

  • Send out a survey to see what participants liked best about CultureSwap and what could be improved.

  • Let us know how it went! We’d love to hear from you if you start a CultureSwap. Send an email to info@cultureswap.org to let us know about your experience!

COVID-19 Update

We recommend that people interested in starting a CultureSwap consult applicable CDC guidance, as well as any state and local authority guidance on in-person gatherings before proceeding with any in-person CultureSwap gatherings. Organizers can also consider whether any CultureSwap elements can be hosted virtually. The CultureSwap toolkit also provides a series of tips for hosting a virtual or hybrid CultureSwap.
